Cypress’ Woods Two Shots Off Pace at the PGA Junior Championships
Tiger Woods of Cypress moved within two shots of the lead on Wednesday after second-round play at the PGA Junior Championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Woods, 14, carded a two-over-par 74 at the PGA National Golf Club and has a two-round total of 147. Chris Couch, 17, of North Lauderdale, Fla., shot a 77 Wednesday, for a two-day total of 145. Joe Acosta, 16, of Visalia and Joey Snyder, 17, of Scottsdale, Ariz., are three shots back at 148.
In the girls’ event, defending champion Vicki Goetze, 17, of Hull, Ga., shot a seven-under 65, a course record, which gave her an eight-stroke lead. Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza is 22 shots back after shooting a six-over 78.
The 15th annual tournament, which continues through Friday, has a field of 47 boys, who are playing the Champions course of the PGA National Golf Club at 6,572 yards, and 46 girls, for whom the same course is set up at 5,445 yards.
