American League President Bobby Brown on Thursday upheld the suspensions of three Milwaukee Brewers for their part in a June 30 brawl with the Seattle Mariners at the Kingdome.

Catcher B.J. Surhoff began his three-game suspension Thursday night as the Brewers played the New York Yankees. Outfielder Mike Felder will begin his three-game suspension Aug. 27 and third baseman Gary Sheffield his three games on Aug. 31. The appeals of all three were denied Thursday by Brown.

Brown earlier suspended Manager Tom Trebelhorn for five games, but Trebelhorn chose not to appeal and completed his suspension the day after the All-Star break. Bob Sebra, now with the Brewers triple-A farm club in Denver, also drew a suspension that he will not serve until he returns to the majors. Four Mariner also were suspended after the fight that lasted half an hour.

The Brewers also announced a roster move because of the suspension of Surhoff.

They recalled catcher Tim McIntosh, who was hitting .288 with 18 home runs and 74 RBIs at Denver. They assigned the contract of left-hander Dennis Powell, who is 0-4 with a 6.86 ERA, to Denver.
