Faria Wins Four-Lap Scratch Main Event at Fairgrounds
Mike Faria of Colton won the four-lap scratch main event Friday in the weekly speedway program at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
Steve Lucero of Riverside was second, Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa third and Phil Collins of Newport Beach fourth before 3,119 spectators.
Faria took the lead at the gate and led the rest of the way, winning by eight bike lengths. Lucero passed Schwartz on the third lap to get second.
Alan Christian of Murrieta, starting 50 yards backs, won the eight-lap handicap main event. Charlie Venegas of Vallejo was second, Schwartz third and Faria fourth. Mike Buff of Torrance finished fifth.
Greg Appelman of Downey won the five-lap second-division main event.
