Blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan died of massive internal and head injuries suffered when the helicopter he was riding in slammed into a ski hill, a coroner said today.

The two-time Grammy-award winning guitarist and four others died in Monday morning’s crash just after Vaughan performed at nearby Alpine Valley Music Theater with his brother, Jimmie, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.

A Clapton spokesman said today that the singer will continue his tour despite Vaughan’s death.

“The guys in the band sat down and talked,” Clapton’s spokesman said. “They just wanted to go on, somehow.”

Clapton, who was on another helicopter that made it to Chicago, is scheduled to perform tonight in Bonner Springs, Kan., and Wednesday night in St. Louis.
