Katrin Krabbe led an East German sweep in the women’s 100-meter dash at the European Track and Field Championships today, and Linford Christie of Britain took the gold medal in the men’s 100.

Krabbe, 20, the world junior record-holder, led all the way and finished in 10.89 seconds, the third-fastest time in the world this season and a meet record.

It was the second gold medal of the championships for East Germany, which is competing as a separate team for the last time before German unification later this year.

Silke Moeller was second in 11.10 and Kerstin Behrendt third in 11.17.

Christie, the Olympic silver medalist who is coming back after a string of injuries, trailed Daniel Sangouma of France before rallying in the final 10 meters. Christie was timed in 10.00, the fastest in Europe this season and the third-fastest in the world.

Sangouma spoiled British hopes of a 1-2 finish, taking the silver in 10.04. John Regis of Britain was third in 10.07.

Earlier, a thunderstorm interrupted the men’s javelin final and briefly held up the women’s long jump final. But the competition in the two events resumed after a brief delay.

Czechoslovakia got its first gold medal in the six-day competition when Pavol Blazek won the men’s 20-kilometer walk in 1 hour, 22 minutes, 5 seconds. Daniel Plaza of Spain was second in 1:22:22 and Thierry Toutain of France third in 1:23:22.

Heike Drechsler gave East Germany its third gold by winning the women’s long jump at 23 feet, 11 1/2 inches, the second-best performance in the world this year.

Drechsler is coming back after taking time off to have a baby following the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, where she took the silver medal.
