MONTREAL — Catcher Orlando Mercado was acquired by the Montreal Expos on waivers from the New York Mets today.
Mercado, 28, has split the season between the Mets and Class AAA Tidewater, batting .211 with three home runs and seven RBIs in 42 National League games. At Tidewater, Mercado hit .264 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 24 games.
