WEEKEND TV : Lewis’ Telethon Returns Sunday

Share

While assorted Administration officials and think-tank experts analyze the Persian Gulf Crisis on public affairs programs for the fifth consecutive weekend, an even longer television tradition returns Sunday.

Jerry Lewis will host his 25th annual Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday on KTLA Channel 5. Ed McMahon and Leeza Gibbons will co-host the 23-hour event, and KTLA anchorwoman Jann Carl and “Santa Barbara” star A Martinez will host the telethon’s local segments.

New fall series continue to make their debuts even before Labor Day, with three Fox series premiering this weekend. “Haywire,” (8:30 tonight on Channels 11 and 6), a companion to that “Candid Camera” clone “Totally Hidden Video,” does away with the hidden camera and openly tapes stunts and contests throughout the nation.

“True Colors” and “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” (see review on Page 1) bow in Sunday. A new episode of “In Living Color” airs Sunday at 8 p.m.

CBS News launches “Project Education” Sunday, with “Sunday Morning” and “60 Minutes” segments devoted to an examination of the nation’s schools.
