Olazabal Deserved More Than Page 6
Sunday, I witnessed (on TV) the completion of the greatest four rounds of golf I’ve ever seen by one golfer, a 24-year-old Spaniard, Jose Maria Olazabal, with rounds of 61-67-67-67 at Firestone for the 1990 World Series of Golf Championship.
He won by 12 strokes and broke at least four records on a very tough golf course. “Go on home, get the hell out of here,” a laughing Lanny Wadkins was quoted as saying on page C6 of your golf roundup in the Monday sports section of The Times.
I’m 65 and very much a U.S. conservative, but your journalistic coverage of this amazing feat by this young foreigner from Spain is a sham copout of recognizing what this small world of ours is all about. . . . It’s “Times” to grow up to it.
Page C6? Come on now.
