Ray Stewart, seeking his first PGA Tour title, birdied two of the final three holes Saturday and took a three-shot lead in the $900,000 Greater Milwaukee Open.

Stewart, who joined the tour in 1983 and has led this tournament each round, shot a five-under-par 67 for a 16-under 200 on the 7,030-yard Tuckaway Country Club course.

Morris Hatalsky, who had the lead with three holes left, and Scott Verplank, who had a second-round 62 that was one stroke shy of the course record, were in second along with Billy Mayfair, three shots behind Stewart.

“I’ve never had a third-round lead. I don’t have too much experience in this, but I think I’ll handle it all right,” Stewart, 36, said.

“It’s $162,000, a two-year exemption, peace of mind and job security for two years. It would be great.”

Hatalsky had an eagle on the 524-yard sixth hole for the third straight day.

Dale Douglass eagled the 13th hole and shot a 67 for a one-stroke lead over Mike Hill in the second round of the GTE North Seniors Classic at Indianapolis.

Douglass’ eagle gave him a five-under-par round and saved him from sharing the 36-hole lead with Hill, who birdied the final two holes at Broadmoor Country Club for a 67.

With a first-round 65, Douglass takes a 12-under 132 into today’s final round.

Judy Dickinson, winless since 1986, shot a six-under-par 66 to lead the LPGA Rail Charity Classic at Springfield, Ill.

Dickinson’s round of six birdies and no bogeys left her one stroke in front of defending champion Beth Daniel.
