A Thousand Oaks man temporarily confined to a wheelchair was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday night after falling into a swimming pool and remaining submerged for up to 10 minutes, sheriff’s deputies said.

Raymond Chew Wong, 39, was brought up from the bottom of a swimming pool in the 2500 block of Whitechapel Place at 1:10 p.m., Ventura County Sheriff’s Department deputies said.

Wong was temporarily confined to a wheelchair due to illness, and his wheelchair also was found at the bottom of the pool. Deputies are investigating how the accident occurred, sheriff’s Lt. Tony Ditzhazy said.
