Former Washington Redskin quarterback Doug Williams unleashed an attack on Raider quarterback Jay Schroeder in a forthcoming book, alleging that his one-time teammate had an ego so big, “I don’t think there was a hat in America that could have fit his head.”
Suspicion was strong that Williams and Schroeder were rivals with the Redskins in 1986 and 1987.
Williams, who is out of football, made his comment in “Quarterblack: Shattering the NFL Myth.”
Schroeder was not available for comment.
After the 1986 season, in which Schroeder made the Pro Bowl and signed a large contract, Williams says Schroeder’s “attitude went out the window.”
In 1987, Williams replaced Schroeder late in the season and quarterbacked the Redskins to the Super Bowl championship.
