A toxic cloud from a fire in a La Verne computer parts manufacturing company forced the evacuation of about 800 residents Sunday night and sent eight individuals, including three firefighters and two police officers to the hospital, officials said Monday.
Many of those evacuated, including residents of nearby mobile home parks, were out of their homes for nearly 24 hours before officials declared the area safe about 4 p.m. Monday.
The fire was discovered about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Super Tech plant at 1st and E streets, fire officials said. The eight injured, including two residents, experienced “major” headaches, nausea and blurred vision, said La Verne Police Lt. Jim Crawford, who ordered the evacuation. All were treated at Pomona Valley Hospital and released.
