At least 10 cities hoping to land one of two National League expansion teams were expected to apply with the league office before Tuesday’s deadline.

The NL office would not say which cities applied or how many applications were received until the expansion committee screens the applications.

Buffalo, N.Y., Denver, Miami, Tampa/St. Petersburg and Orlando, Fla., Washington, Phoenix, Sacramento, Nashville and Vancouver, B.C., are among cities that have expressed interest.

Investers must pay a $95-million franchise fee to land a club. The NL will expand for the 1993 season.
