THOUSAND OAKS : Council to Discuss Jordan Annexation

Share

The Thousand Oaks City Council on Tuesday night will discuss the possible impact if Simi Valley annexes the Jordan Ranch area in eastern Ventura County.

Councilman Frank Schillo suggested that the council take a position on the issue and give direction to Mayor Alex Fiore, an alternate member of the Local Agency Formation Commission. The agency may be asked to vote on the proposed annexation at its Wednesday meeting.

But Schillo backed away from his request for a formal council vote after Fiore said he would resign from the county agency before basing his LAFCO vote on the views of the Thousand Oaks council.

“I will make my own decisions,” Fiore said, based on the testimony the county board receives.

Fiore has said he is against the annexation because Jordan Ranch is barely accessible to Simi Valley.

As an alternate, he probably will be asked to vote on the matter at the LAFCO meeting if Vicky Howard, a member of the county commission and a Simi Valley city councilwoman, abstains.

Simi Valley has asked LAFCO to issue a preliminary ruling on the possibility of the city annexing the ranch.
