Valencia’s Balance Beats St. John Bosco

Ryan Roskelly and John Fewell led Valencia High School on both sides of the line of scrimmage in the Tigers’ 10-7 victory over St. John Bosco at Bradford Stadium Thursday.

Roskelly gained 76 yards in 11 carries, intercepted a pass and made eight unassisted tackles. Fewell rushed 12 times for 49 yards and had three sacks.

Dave Greer kicked a 33-yard field goal, capping Valencia’s 43-yard drive with 6 minutes 4 seconds remaining in the first half.

St. John Bosco had two scoring opportunities in the first half, but Rob Scialdone intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it 48 yards and Korey Alexander blocked a field-goal attempt to preserve Valencia’s 3-0 halftime lead.

St. John Bosco drove 69 yards in 11 plays on its first possession of the second half, with Derek Ayers scoring on a one-yard run with 3:02 remaining in the third quarter.

Valencia then moved 80 yards in six plays on its next possession, with running back Raul Padilla scoring from three yards out.

The Tigers’ game-winning drive was assisted by a 51-yard pass play from quarterback Marc O’Brien to Josiah Williams and a 23-yard run by Roskelly.
