A man who faked a gun was shot by the real thing when the woman he attempted to rob pulled a gun out of a drawer in her Hollywood home, police said Friday.

The woman, whose name and address were not disclosed, wounded the robber, who was captured by police about a block away, Sgt. Tammy Tatreau said.

The woman had stopped her car at a light in Los Angeles late Thursday when a man opened the unlocked passenger door and got in, faking a gun and ordering her to drive home, Tatreau said. She tried to take him to a different address, but he found her actual address in papers in the glove compartment, then ordered her to take him there.

At the home, the man took a knife from the kitchen and struck her on the head. She told him she had money in a drawer, pulled out a .357-magnum handgun and fired five times, striking him four times in the arm and abdomen, Tatreau said.

The robber was treated at County-USC Medical Center and booked in the jail ward on suspicion of robbery and kidnaping.
