They’re Glad to Have Scully and Offerman

Share

Few things in life were ever quite the way you remember them. But I can still go out to my back patio on a warm summer evening and listen to Vin Scully, just as I would do with my father 20 years ago, and feel 12 years old again. My father’s not here anymore, but I still turn on the radio and listen to the prose Vinny creates.

My favorite recent Scullyism was during the 1988 championship season: “Hershiser, reaching into his glove like a gem merchant extracting a fine stone from a sack of diamonds.” It doesn’t get any better.
