Lukas Pays Highest Price at Yearling Sale: $500,000
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas bought a colt by Mr. Prospector for $500,000, the top price paid Monday during Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale.
Lee Eaton and John Williams, as agents for Ross Valley Farm, consigned the bay colt out of Canadian stakes winner Lantana Lady, by Vice Regent.
Second high price of the day was $425,000 paid by Sheik Hamdan al Maktoum’s Shadwell Estate Co. Ltd. for a colt by Woodman out of Princess Laika, by Blushing Groom.
During Monday’s session, Keeneland sold 266 horses for $17,017,000 for an average of $63,974. Last year, 266 head brought $19,374,000, an average of $72,835.
