A 35-year-old Whittier man was charged with vehicular manslaughter Wednesday after he allegedly killed a pregnant woman and three children when his speeding pickup truck struck another pickup on the shoulder of the Santa Ana Freeway in Norwalk.

Michael K. Andersen was charged with four counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in the deaths of Angelica Flores, 22, of San Ysidro; her daughter, Vanessa Figueroa, 2; Ernestina Sanches, 13, and Ernesto Sanches Jr., 4, both of San Diego. Anderson was being held on $500,000 bail.

Ten others were injured in the victims’ pickup, whose truck bed was filled with riders when it was struck Sunday, the district attorney’s office said. California Highway Patrol officers said Andersen was driving between 60 and 65 m.p.h. when he struck the victims’ truck.
