Pair’s Deaths in Mexico Believed Murder, Suicide
A Los Angeles Police Department lieutenant apparently shot and killed his girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself in a hotel room at Rosarito Beach in Mexico, police said Friday.
A police spokesman in Rosarito, a resort just south of Tijuana, said the bodies of Miguel Ochoa, 38, and Francis Kovac, 19, were discovered Tuesday afternoon, each with a slug from Ochoa’s .38-caliber service revolver through the jaw.
Judicial police spokesman Manuel Carrasco said it appeared that Ochoa, who was assigned to the Rampart Division, had emptied all but two bullets from his revolver. Mexican authorities theorized that evidence suggested that Ochoa may have shot Kovac during a game of Russian Roulette.
“After killing the girl he apparently turned the gun on himself,” Carrasco said.
