Florida State joined the Atlantic Coast Conference Friday, bringing a football powerhouse to a league known for its basketball excellence.

The Seminoles, who compete in the Metro Conference in all sports except football, could begin their affiliation with the ACC in basketball and baseball in the 1991-92 school year.

Football will take longer because the Seminoles are scheduled through 1999. They play only six ACC schools in the remainder of the decade.
