Mining Firm Discovers ‘Bonanza’ of Gold Ore

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. — A small mining company here said it has struck what appears to be a “phenomenal bonanza” of gold in California’s Mother Lode region.
Brush Creek Mining & Development Co., which is publicly traded over the counter, said it has discovered five major shoots of gold ore in a mine about an hour northeast of Grass Valley in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
Tests of the shoots showed “tremendous” grades of as much as 16.5 ounces of gold a ton, the company said. A grade of one-third of an ounce per ton is considered excellent, company President Michael Pickering said.
The ore shoots were tested at levels 400 feet apart vertically and could go much deeper, Pickering said. The Empire Mine in Grass Valley, the largest gold-producing mine in California history, went to a depth of over 11,000 feet on the decline.
