Wilbert (Bill) McDonald; Retired Electrical Engineer

Wilbert (Bill) McDonald, a retired electrical engineer, has died at his Burbank home. He was 77.

McDonald died Thursday of cancer, his son, Norman McDonald, said.

He was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Chicago. He moved to Burbank in 1964 and bought a Mobil gas station with a partner. He sold the business a few years later and worked at a machine shop. In 1978, he retired as an electrical engineer from Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen McDonald; son, Norman McDonald of Lancaster; daughter, Nancy Pitchford of Saugus, and a grandson.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Service Chapel, 333 East Magnolia Blvd., in Burbank, which is handling the arrangements. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood. Donations can be made in McDonald’s name to Heads Up Inc., a nonprofit organization that uses horses in providing physical therapy for the handicapped, at 21652 Spice Court, Saugus 91350.
