Julia (Julie) Farkas, a copy editor for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate, has died at her North Hollywood home. She was 49.

Ms. Farkas died Wednesday of colon cancer, said her sister, Deborah Farkas of Sherman Oaks.

Born March 19, 1941, in Philadelphia, she came to the San Fernando Valley in 1955. She graduated from North Hollywood High School and Valley College before working as a copy editor for TV Guide during the mid-1960s. In 1979, she began working for the Los Angeles Times Poll and worked as a supervisor until 1984, when she went to work for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. She was an assistant syndicate copy editor until last October, when she left because of her illness.

Ms. Farkas was active with Vital Options, a support group for young adults with cancer.

In addition to her sister, she is survived by her mother, Rose Farkas of North Hollywood.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at Congregation Beth Meier, 11725 Moorpark St. in Studio City. Aftercare California Cremation and Burial Society in Van Nuys is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Ms. Farkas’ name to Vital Options, 4419 Coldwater Canyon Blvd., Studio City 91604.
