VENTURA : 30 Evacuated After Muriatic Acid Spills

Share

A container of muriatic acid that found its way into a Ventura recycling bin and then was missed by sorters at a recycling center forced the evacuation of about 30 workers, fire officials said.

Workers at the Gold Coast Recycling Center in Ventura had to leave the building when the gallon container burst and spilled onto the floor after being compressed by machinery.

Barry Simmons, information officer for the Ventura Fire Department, said it took hazardous material and county environmental health officers three hours to clean up the spill, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Monday. Simmons said no injuries were reported.
