A man accused of killing a dabbler in witchcraft for putting a curse on him pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in Butte County Superior Court. Michael Wallick, 25, of Magalia, was indicted by the county grand jury in the death of Paul Lee, 23, also of Magalia. Lee’s body was found sprawled behind a car at the Doon Campground north of Lovelock on July 29. Investigators found a .22-caliber handgun and evidence of a struggle at the scene, Assistant Sheriff Mick Gray said. Dist. Atty. Mike Ramsey said Wallick had been upset with Lee for putting a curse on him. Lee was known to dabble in witchcraft, Ramsey said. Bail was set at $500,000.
