L.A. COUNTY FAIR : Pincay Aboard Comfy in the Marian Stakes
Jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. visits Fairplex Park for the first time during the 1990 race meeting on Friday afternoon when he guides Something Comfy in the $53,900 California Thoroughbred Breeders Assn. Marian Stakes at 1 1/16 miles.
Held for California-bred sophomore fillies, the CTBA Marian is the 12th race on a 13-race card.
Pincay is no stranger to the tight turns of Fairplex Park, having piloted Speedratic to victory in the $150,000 Pomona Invitational last season, and his presence suggests that Something Comfy is a promising filly for trainer Donald Warren.
On paper, the daughter of Somethingfabulous can show two wins in six outings and a dull showing against males in the Orange County Derby run a month ago at another five-eighths oval, Los Alamitos. But she was second in her most recent start, an allowance test on the Del Mar grass, which was Pincay’s first time aboard her.
Something Comfy breaks from the seven hole Friday and will carry 119 pounds.
In post position order, the lineup is made up of Intercivet, Julio Garcia, 122 pounds; Shinko’s Lass, Martin Pedroza, 122; Timely Walk, Adalberto Lopez, 114; Jo Lo’s Joy, Corey Nakatani, 122; Effusive Bounty, David Flores, 122; Radiant Colors, Ray Sibille, 119; Something Comfy; Horsche, Danny Sorenson, 114; Saros Treasure, Corey Black, 114, and Ali’s Song, Frank Olivares, 114.
The Marian awards the winner $31,400.
