Center Nets $500,000 From Benefit

The International Center for Visual Communications in Jerusalem netted more than $500,000 at its first West Coast fund-raiser, a dinner held Sept. 11 at the Beverly Hilton. The money will go toward establishment of the center to provide television production facilities and training in broadcasting and production. Michael J. Solomon chaired the event. Former Secretary of State George P. Shultz was honorary chair.

* Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles benefited by more than $300,000 at the “Evening Under the Stars” fund-raiser at Universal Studios. The Sept. 9 event was sponsored by the League for Children and attended by 2,000 guests. Proceeds will be used for for professional treatment and prevention services to abused and neglected children and family members throughout Los Angeles. Richard K. Eamer, CEO and founder of National Medical Enterprises Inc., was dinner chair.

* White Memorial Medical Center received a $25,000 check from White Memorial Medical Center Foundation Sept. 6. The donation will be used for the hospital’s emergency department expansion and renovation program, including the recently approved purchase of centralized monitoring equipment.

* Hathaway Children’s Services received a $2,000 check on Aug. 21 from Deluxe Check Printers Foundation to be used for a job readiness computer training program.

* California Arboretum Foundation received a $20,000 grant June 7 from the Fletcher Jones Foundation to study and design the expansion of the education program at the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum. The arboretum will use the grant to enlarge its children’s education program, to initiate courses that reach disadvantaged individuals and to expand the adult program.
