Santa Monica : Hospital Gets 20 VCRs

Irene Dunne Guild, a fund-raising auxiliary organization of St. John’s Hospital and Health Center, has donated 20 videocassette recorders to the hospital’s Oncology Unit.
The guild has also established a film library of more than 100 videos donated by film companies.
“I was a cancer patient at St. John’s and thought the care was wonderful, but the days were long,” said Chris Newman, who chaired the guild’s committee that raised money for the VCRs. “Watching movies or family videos would help time to pass more quickly and brighten the hours.”
Newman said that St. John’s is the first hospital in the area to offer VCRs in patient rooms and that the guild hopes to raise enough money to install VCRs in all the rooms.
