A 24-year-old San Diego man is being held without bail at the County Jail in connection with the attempted murder and rape of his ex-girlfriend.

Charles W. Williams, who lives in the 2700 block of 44th Street, is scheduled to be arraigned today in San Diego Municipal Court, said a jail spokeswoman.

Williams, who is unemployed, was arrested Wednesday afternoon when sheriff’s deputies found him hiding in the pool of a Lemon Grove apartment complex, said Sheriff’s Detective Jim Ladner.

Shortly before 1 p.m., a 911 call alerted deputies to a man with a knife and a possible stabbing in an apartment complex in the 3500 block of Grove Street, Ladner said.

Soon after deputies arrived at the apartment, the man jumped out of a second-story window and was later found hiding in the pool, Ladner said.

A 19-year-old woman was found in one of the bedrooms with two stab wounds to the abdomen, one to the neck and one to the head, Ladner said.

She is listed in stable condition at Mercy Hospital, Ladner said.
