COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : UCLA : Defense Will Limp Into Ann Arbor
Coach Terry Donahue said that his defensive unit is banged up for Saturday’s nationally televised game with Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Cornerback Dion Lambert, who missed last Saturday’s Stanford game with an ankle injury, will make the trip but his status is questionable. His backup, Damion Lyons, was left home with a knee injury. Moreover, Robert Gamble, the third right cornerback on the depth chart, has a back injury.
Donahue said he’s also concerned about the status of strong safety Matt Darby, who has a shoulder injury.
UCLA has already lost outside linebacker Roceen Keeton and defensive tackle Brian Kelly with injuries. They aren’t expected to play until Oct. 6, against Arizona.
Donahue said his team is in better physical shape offensively. However, tailback Kevin Williams has a back injury. Brian Brown is Williams’ probable replacement in the starting lineup.
