THE SIDELINES : 4 Advance in Paris Open Tennis
Fourth-seeded Julie Halard of France defeated Californian Debbie Graham of Fountain Valley today, 6-7 (7-2), 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals of the $150,000 Paris Women’s Open tennis tournament.
Halard will meet the top seed, Conchita Martinez of Spain, who defeated fifth-seeded Rachel McQuillan of Australia, 6-4, 6-3.
Second-seeded Sandra Cecchini of Italy ousted Regina Rejchrtova of Czechoslovakia, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, to advance to Saturday’s semifinals. Cecchini will play Patricia Tarabini of Argentina, who eliminated Petra Langrova of Czechoslovakia, 6-4, 6-3.
