WESTERN ATHLETIC ROUNDUP : Wyoming Stays Unbeaten With Win Over Air Force

Wyoming quarterback Tom Corontzos completed 16 of 24 passes for 200 yards and connected on touchdown pass plays of 48 and 25 yards to lead the Cowboys to a 24-12 victory over Air Force in a Western Athletic Conference game Saturday at Laramie, Wyo.

Wyoming, 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the WAC, scored its final touchdown on a five-yard run by tailback Jay Daffer with less than two minutes left.

Air Force (2-2, 1-2) scored on a two-yard run by DeShawn Durham and a seven-yard interception return by Shanon Yates.

Colorado State 38, Texas El Paso 20--Brian Copeland rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown and set up another score with a 55-yard run as the Rams (3-1, 2-0) beat the Miners (1-3, 0-2) in a WAC game at Fort Collins, Colo.

Colorado State spotted UTEP a 13-0 lead three minutes into the game, then scored for touchdowns on four consecutive possessions.

Fullback Todd Yert scored twice, and tailbacks Copeland and Tony Alford also scored--all on one-yard runs.

Hawaii 19, Utah 7--Garrett Gabriel connected with Jeff Sydner on a 73-yard scoring pass to open the fourth quarter, securing the Rainbows’ first victory in a WAC game at Salt Lake City.

Gabriel completed 18 of 28 passes for 328 yards for the Rainbows (1-2, 1-1). Sydner had eight receptions for 131 yards.

Brad Foster scored the only touchdown for Utah (2-2, 0-1) with a one-yard run in the first quarter.

Texas Tech 34, New Mexico 32--Lin Elliott kicked a 37-yard field goal with 24 seconds left to give the Red Raiders (1-2) a nonconference victory over the Lobos (1-3) at Albuquerque, N.M.

New Mexico (1-3) rallied for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter behind quarterback Jeremy Leach, who completed 23 of 54 passes for 349 yards.

Texas Tech quarterback Robert Hall, a freshman, completed 15 of 31 passes for 316 yards and touchdowns of 37 and 54 yards.
