KENTUCKY FRIED ARCHITECTURE

Share

I’m prompted to write by “Kentucky Fried Modern,” by Michael Webb (Aug. 5). I had the personal misfortune to actually see this building on a recent visit to Los Angeles. While the immediate neighborhood is generally a disaster, this building is a total affront and embarrassment to everyone in Los Angeles.

The architect and misguided owner are exercising what I’d have to call architectural indulgence at our expense. I’m sure that’s within their rights. Might I suggest, however, that such buildings be constructed of cardboard, so they would self-destruct, should we ever get any rain?

I’d prefer we go back to the whimsy of the ‘40s, with plaster hot dogs and doughnuts represented on retail buildings. At least the world could laugh at us deservedly.
