Local News in Brief : Motorist Killed When Car Drifts Off Freeway
The driver of a car that drifted off the Golden State Freeway and struck a dirt embankment Sunday morning was thrown 50 feet and killed, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Guadalupe Martinez, 29, of Los Angeles was pronounced dead at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital less than an hour after the 6:50 a.m. accident north of Castaic, Officer Andy Swanson said. Martinez was driving south on the freeway when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the embankment, the officer said.
Swanson speculated that Martinez may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Martinez was not wearing a seat belt, Swanson said.
