A Hillcrest bank was robbed Tuesday by a man police suspect of robbing three other financial institutions since mid-August.

The bandit entered the HomeFed Bank at 3904 Park Blvd. at 11:20 a.m. and showed a teller a 4-by-6-inch card saying he had a gun in his backpack and warning the teller “not to do anything stupid,” police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

The man, nicknamed the “Backpack Bandit,” escaped with about $600, Robinson said. No gun was displayed. No injuries were reported.
