Pasadena : Rebate for Saving Electricity

Electric customers in Pasadena who take steps to save energy will receive rebates and gifts under four pilot programs approved Tuesday by the Board of Directors.

The programs, estimated to cost $287,100 in fiscal 1991:

* Customers who install energy-efficient heat pumps will receive rebates of up to $80 per ton of cooling capacity.

* Those installing energy-efficient lighting can receive up to $100 per kilowatt of energy reduction.

* 500 residential customers will be sought for a two-year project to test remote shut-offs of air conditioners during peak electric use hours.

* Customers who plant trees on the sunny, west or southwest sides of buildings will receive a $10 cash rebate or an energy-efficient fluorescent bulb valued at $15.
