Laura Ashley to Cut 1,500 Employees: The fashion house said it will close seven factories in Britain and Ireland and cut 1,000 workers in Britain and 500 elsewhere. Sir Bernard Ashley, chairman of Laura Ashley Holdings PLC, said high inflation and interest rates in the United Kingdom made it cheaper to get products of similar quality from suppliers in other nations. Laura Ashley said it will continue to print its own fabrics and wall coverings in Great Britain.
