Share

A blaze broke out in an attic at a small mall Thursday afternoon but was quickly extinguished when a sprinkler system put out the flames.

The fire, which was sparked by faulty electrical wires, caused about $35,000 worth of damage, fire officials said.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze about 2 p.m. by employees of EJG Clothing Corp. The fire forced evacuation of four stores in the refurbished packing house in the 18000 block of Yorba Linda Boulevard, Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman Kathleen Cha said.

By the time the 17 firefighters arrived, the building’s sprinkler system had doused most of the flames.
