2 S.D. Council Members Back Roache

Sheriff’s candidate Jim Roache got the support of two San Diego City Council members Friday who endorsed his bid to succeed longtime Sheriff Jim Duffy.

In endorsing Roache, Council members Ron Roberts and Judy McCarty cited his 19 years of experience with the Sheriff’s Department and his position on the San Diego city school board as two of the reasons for their support.

“I know that he’s honest and I know that he’s open and he will make the Sheriff’s Department responsive to the people of San Diego,” McCarty said during a press conference on the steps of City Hall Friday morning.

Roache, a sheriff’s captain, adds these latest endorsements to those of council members Bruce Henderson and Wes Pratt that he said he received about six months ago.

Emphasizing the need of the county and the city to work together, Roberts threw his support behind Roache in his race against Assistant Sheriff Jack Drown.
