Rex Hugh Davis Sr.; Owned Tow Truck Business

Rex Hugh Davis Sr., who owned a tow truck business in San Fernando, has died at his home in Sylmar. He was 70.

Davis died Monday of heart failure, said his son, Rex Davis Jr.

Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Sutersville, Pa., Davis served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, achieving the rank of platoon sergeant. In 1945, he married Carla Sigler. They moved to California in 1953.

He owned a gas station in San Fernando and auto wrecking yards in Pacoima and Burbank. From 1957 to 1977, he owned Empire Towing in San Fernando and continued to work in the automobile trade until his retirement in 1985.

Davis was also a longtime member of the American Legion Post in Sylmar.

He is survived by his son, Rex Davis Jr. of Sylmar; daughter Michele Schiemer of Sylmar; brothers Walter Davis of Portage, Ind., and Richard Davis and Rey Davis of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren. His wife died in 1988.

A funeral was held Friday with burial at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills. J.T. Oswald Mortuary in San Fernando handled the arrangements.
