Chest Pains Hospitalize Lancaster Vice Mayor

Share

Lancaster Vice Mayor George Root was reported in stable condition in a hospital intensive care unit Monday after being admitted over the weekend suffering from chest pains, city and hospital officials said.

Root, 60, who won his office in April, was stricken Sunday just after he and his wife had driven back from a conference held in the Orange County community of Dana Point.

Lancaster spokeswoman Nancy Walker said she did not know the cause of Root’s chest pains but said he was conscious Monday and talked with fellow council member the Rev. Henry Hearns. Root works as facilities manager for the jet propulsion laboratory at Edwards Air Force Base.

Walker said she did not know whether Root had prior health problems. Officials at Lancaster Community Hospital, where Root was admitted, confirmed that he was in stable condition but released no other details.
