3 Missing in Crash of Navy Helicopter
Rescuers searched Monday for three crew members aboard a San Diego-based Navy helicopter that plunged into the Pacific 30 miles off the Oregon coast.
The Navy SH-60B Seahawk plummeted into the sea as it tried to make an emergency landing aboard the guided missile frigate Crommelin. The accident occurred while the helicopter and the Crommelin were participating in a joint U.S.-Canadian anti-submarine warfare exercise.
Missing are the pilot, Lt. Cmdr. Paul K. Miller, 36, of Elgin, Ill.; the co-pilot, Ens. Timothy E. Hanusin, 27, of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and the radar operator, Petty Officer 2nd Class William R. Nolte, 25, of Minneapolis.
