Brigham Young quarterback Ty Detmer has been fitted with a removable cast and will miss practice this week because of an injury to his throwing hand, team officials said.

The junior quarterback passed for 442 yards but threw five interceptions in 11th-ranked BYU’s 32-16 loss at Oregon on Saturday. The Cougars (4-1) do not play this week.

Auburn Coach Pat Dye, 50, hospitalized Sunday night for stomach pains, is expected to remain hospitalized for several days while he undergoes treatment for a problem called “pre-ulcerous.” . . . Louisiana State running back Harvey Williams, 23, was arrested for simple battery hours after helping LSU to a 17-8 victory over Texas A&M.; His wife, Lorie, accused him of choking her “and officers did witness red marks on her neck,” Baton Rouge, La., police spokesman Jeff Wesley said.
