An engine-room fire aboard a cruise ship was quickly controlled and none of the 1,460 passengers or crew was injured, a spokesman for the ship’s owner said Tuesday.

The fire Monday evening aboard the Crystal Harmony was confined to an auxiliary engine room, said Arthur Sbarsky, marketing vice president for Los Angeles-based Crystal Cruises.

Although the fire temporarily disabled the ship, Crystal Cruises spokeswoman Darlene Papalini said the vessel was able to get underway again Tuesday afternoon, heading toward Cristobal. It was expected in the Panamanian port, 220 nautical miles away, on Wednesday evening, Papalini said.

The ship was en route from San Juan, Puerto Rico, through the Panama Canal to Acapulco, Mexico, when the fire erupted.

“All our guests are safe and their safety continues to be our first priority,” Sbarsky said in a statement.
