Construction has begun on the $3-million Tijeras Creek Bridge, part of a plan to provide an alternate highway for South County commuters.

The bridge will link Antonia Parkway with the future extension of Oso Parkway from Mission Viejo to Coto de Caza.

The 420-foot-long bridge is part of the network for the Foothill Transportation Corridor, the $240-million South County tollway project.

“Once these important roadways are open, we will be able to offer better access and increased mobility to the people living and/or working in and around Rancho Santa Margarita,” said Anthony R. Moiso, president of the Santa Margarita Co.

The tollway is a project of the county and a consortium of 13 major land owners, including the Santa Margarita Co.
