San Diego’s Steve Chelios and Coronado’s Scooter Henson were among four players released by the Gulls and Rob Schena arrived from Detroit as the training camp roster was reduced to 25. General Manager Don Waddell announced that along with Mt. Carmel graduate Chelios, a defenseman, and Henson, a goaltender, right wing Kirk Tomlinson and goaltender Peter Richards were cut.

VOLLEYBALL

Point Loma Nazarene remained undefeated in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a victory over Cal Baptist, 15-10, 16-18, 15-11, 15-10. Jamie Wheat had 16 kills and Roberta Simpson had 14 for PLNC (14-5, 4-0). Teammate LeAnne Lopez had 48 assists. Cal Baptist fell to 11-9, 3-2.
