Manchester United made a triumphant return to the continent, ending a ban of more than five years on English soccer teams, by beating Pecsi Munkas 1-0 today on a header by Brian McClair with 13 minutes remaining.

English teams were barred from the continent after 39 people were killed in clashes between British and Italian fans at Heysel Stadium in Brussels in May, 1985.

Several hundred United fans traveled to Hungary for the match. There were no reports of violence at or near the stadium.
