Auburn Coach Pat Dye left the hospital and returned to football drills, promising to develop better eating habits and avoid the stomach distress that has hit him twice this year.

Dye’s condition was diagnosed as pre-uclerous, and he said tests are being conducted to determine which medication he should take. He entered the hospital Sunday night after his No. 5-ranked Tigers’ 26-26 tie with No. 6 Tennessee but does not think the ailment is related to the pressures of his work.

“It’s more diet-related than anything,” he said. “I don’t eat breakfast. I drink three or four cups of coffee and go eat lunch. . . . I don’t think my diet habits are what they should be.”

Kansas State’s improvement has to be put in perspective, but the turnaround from a 1-10 record in 1989 to 3-1 this season has fans impressed at Manhattan, Kan.

The three victories match the Wildcats’ win total of the previous four seasons. The Wildcats scored 134 points last season. This year they already have 152.
