‘Mikado,’ ‘Pirates’ Costa Mesa Casting

The D’Oyly Carte Opera Company of Great Britain has announced casting for “The Mikado” and “The Pirates of Penzance,” next Tuesday through Oct. 21 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

* “The Mikado,” next Tuesday through Oct. 18, 8 p.m.: David Fieldsend will sing Nanki-Poo, Sandra Dugdale will appear as Yum-Yum, Eric Roberts will be Ko-Ko. Susan Gorton will sing Katisha. Michael Ducarel will be the Mikado. John Ayldon will appear as Pooh-Bah. John Pryce-Jones will conduct next Tuesday and Oct. 17; Tim Dean will take over Oct. 18.

The production will be staged by Christopher Webber.

* “Pirates,” Oct. 19-21 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 20 and 21 at 2 p.m: Fieldsend will sing Frederic, Marilyn Hill Smith will be Mabel. Roberts will appear as Major-General Stanley, Malcolm Rivers will be the Pirate King. Gorton will sing Ruth. John Rath will be the Police Sergeant. Pryce-Jones will conduct the evening performances; Dean will conduct the matinees.
